Morning Meditation, April 18, 2020 Our focus today is beauty, and gratitude for all we have been given. Our readings come from Nan C. Merrill’s Psalms for Praying: An Invitation to Wholeness, from Bloomsbury Press.
Psalm 121, from Psalms for Praying, by Nan C. Merrill:
My heart’s eyes behold your
From whence does my help come?
My help comes from You,
who created heaven and earth.
You strengthen and uphold me,
You, who are ever by our side.
Behold! You who watch over the nations
will see all hearts Awaken
to the Light.
For You are the Great Counselor;
You dwell within all hearts,
that we might respond to the Universal Heart –
Like hte sun, that nourishes us by day,
like the stars that guide the
wayfarer at night.
In You we shall not be afraid of
the darkness, for
You are the Light of our life.
May you keep us in our going out
and our coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.
And Psalm 128, also from this beautiful book:
Blessed are you who reverence
who walk in Love’s way!
You radiate an inner joy
and peace where’er you go;
compassion draws you to
the gates of those in need.
Families and friends gather upon
Children run to greet you with
Yes, blessed are you who reverence
Strangers feel at home in
the oppressed are comforted
by your support.
Blessed indeed are you who reverence
Peace is within you!

Morning Meditation, April 17, 2020 This morning we explore our ability to connect with joy, with readings from Rabindranath Tagore and Jack Kornfield.
From Sadhana: The Realisation of Life, by Rabindranath Tagore
Joy is everywhere; it is in the earth’s green covering of grass: in the blue serenity of the sky; in the reckless exuberance of spring; in the severe abstinence of grey winter; in the living flesh that animates our bodily frame; in the perfect poise of the human figure, noble and upright; in living in the exercise of all our powers; in the acquisition of knowledge. . . Joy is there everywhere.
And from Jack Kornfield:
When you learn to navigate your difficulties with compassion and grace, you will also discover that joy will return.
No matter what you have faced, joy and renewal wait your return. When you remember, you can open your eyes to the mystery of life around you. Sense the blessings of the earth in the perfect arc of a ripe tangerine, the taste of warm, fresh bread, the circling flight of birds, the lavender color of the sky shining in a late afternoon rain puddle, the million times we pass other beings, in our cars and shops and out among the trees without crashing, conflict, or harm.
The world offers perennial renewal, in the grass that pushes itself up between the cracks in the sidewalk, in the end of every torrential rainstorm and in every newly planted window box, in every unexpected revolution, with each new morning’s light. This unstoppable spirit of renewal is in you. Trust it. Learn that it flows through you and all of life. The ultimate gift of our suffering is to teach us how to properly grieve, heal, and learn compassion. But finally we come to the realization that in any moment we can step out of the body of fear and feel the great winds that carry us, to awaken to the eternal present.
Morning Meditation, April 16, 2020 Our focus this morning is peace. Please enjoy the meditation, and our readings for the day.
From Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
Don’t look for peace. Don’t look for any other state than the one you are in now; otherwise, you will set up inner conflict and unconscious resistance. Forgive yourself for not being at peace. The moment you completely accept your non-peace, your non-peace becomes transmuted into peace. Anything you accept fully will get you there, will take you into peace. This is the miracle of surrender.
And from the Islamic tradition, a prayer for peace:
In the name of Allah, the beneficent, the merciful. Praise be to the Lord of the Universe who has created us and made us into tribes and nations, that we may know each other, not that we may despise each other.
If the enemy incline towards peace, do thou also incline towards peace, and trust in God, for the Lord is the one that heareth and knoweth all things.
And the servants of God, Most Gracious are those who walk on the earth in humility, and when we address them, we say, “Peace.”
