Morning Meditation, May 25, 2020 Enjoy today’s readings from Thomas Merton and Joy Houghton as we focus on becoming.
From Thomas Merton:
There is in us an instinct for newness, for renewal, for a liberation of creative power. We seek to awaken in ourselves a force which really changes our lives from within. And yet the same instinct tells us that this change is a recovery of that which is deepest, most original, most personal in ourselves. To be born again is not to become somebody else, but to become ourselves.
and from Joy Houghton:
Spiritual growth is not made in reaction against, for all striving against imposed restrictions is imaginary. Spiritual growth is accomplished by inclination toward. We grow like the sunflower, following the light.
Tomorrow we celebrate Memorial Day, the day we honor those military men and women who died in the service of their country. It seems right today, when we have such new and unexpected battles to fight, to look at the qualities of heart and character that set apart those who act with courage and selflessness for all of us. What makes a hero today? Join us and let’s explore this question together.
