Community Circles – We are glad to be resuming our Community Circles for the summer session! We are going to mix it up a bit, with TED talks, game nights, and any other fun ideas you have. Wednesday night we’ll be sharing a TED Talk by journalist Celeste Headlee entitled “10 Ways to Have a Better Conversation.” It’s a great discussion starter on why we so often have difficulty engaging in meaningful dialogues with each other. If you’d like to improve your conversational and listening skills, please join us!

PRAYERS

Opening Prayer

Prayer For Community

For cities and towns, factories and farms, flowers and trees, sea and sky—

We give thanks for the world and its beauty.

For family and friends, neighbors and cousins—

We give thanks for friendship and love.

For kind hearts, smiling faces, and helping hands—

We give thanks for those who care for others.

For wisdom that teaches us how to live—

We give thanks for those who help us to understand how to live in peace and wholeness.

And for making us one family on earth, the children of One God—

We give thanks to God, who made all people different, yet alike.

~ Adapted from a prayer from the Jewish tradition

Community Prayer

A Celtic Lorica (a protection prayer)

Spirit of all blessing, be with us in the ordinariness of our days.

May hope’s light guard us and keep cynicism from our hearts.

May the energy of laughter build endurance for the dark times of our lives.

May creativity’s vision grant the possibility of seeing old relationships with new eyes.

May the oil of healing keep us from anger’s hardness or despair.

May the mantle of humility give courage to admit when we are wrong.

May compassion’s loom weave in us the discipline to forgive.

May patience help us bear in mind that ours is not the only scale of time.

May the flame of justice be a beacon for the choices we must make.

May peace be ever in us and sustain our stressful days.

Spirit of all blessing, be with us in the ordinariness of our days.
